MAJOR INITIATIVES
TINY HOMES FOR HOMELESS WOMEN (INCLUDING THOSE WITH CHILDREN)


In May, 2020, the City Council approved Councilman Goble's request for a zoning change to allow emergency sleeping cabins (aka "tiny homes") on 13 sites throughout the City.
Meridian Baptist Church has been the only site to host these cabins to-date.
In the first 18 months, 32 women and 15 children called these cabins home. 68% moved on to permanent housing!!
Councilman Goble was so passionate about the program, he worked alongside 120+ volunteers over 7 months to build these wonderful homes.

HOUSING NAVIGATOR

In early 2017, after going on a listening tour with various stakeholders in homelessness, Councilman Goble learned a Housing Navigator would be a much-needed solution to get people off the street.
In May, 2017, the City Council approved Councilman Goble's proposal to fund a Navigator through its contract with a homeless services provider.
Since then, a great team of dedicated and caring people have helped hundreds of people off the streets into housing at a fraction of the cost in other areas.
FOODIE FEST 2021 - HELPING RESTAURANTS RECOVER FROM CLOSURE

The County-mandated closure of restaurants took a staggering toll on restaurants, including caterers.
After the closures were lifted, to help them tell the public they were open again, the Council approved Councilman Goble's idea for "Foodie Fest".
Held outdoors in late 2021, the event attracted 40 restaurants/caterers and was attended by over 2,000 people eager to get out and enjoy their dining experiences again.
DOLLAR DAYS
Social interaction took a nosedive during the pandemic. Children were especially hurt. To help enjoy each other's company again, Councilman Goble proposed "Dollar Days".
All recreation classes would be discounted to just $1 to $5.
Together, classes were at 94% capacity, exceeding even pre-pandemic levels.
Especially impactful, over 300 children learned to swim for the first time, providing life-saving skills.
Our entire Recreation Staff performed with the highest excellence in making this program work for hundreds of residents ready to get back to enjoying fun with others.


"MY EL CAJON" - A RESIDENT SERVICE REQUEST APP



In October, 2017, Councilman Goble proposed a smartphone app to allow residents to report graffiti, debris, and other conditions needing repair.
The City's Information Technology department developed a robust app which allows residents to report potholes, graffiti, traffic light problems, parking concerns, encampments, but also provide information on business resources, recreation classes, a building permit hotline, and more.
Since its launch, the app has been downloaded by more than 10% of residents, sending tens of thousands of requests for assistance.
For its effort and excellence, the IT department receiving a national award for Performance and Innovation Excellence.
